Friendly, Neighborhood Alligator

Won't you stay my neighbor?

If you were on the island last week, you might have heard about the alligator that visited our office! For our intents and purposes, let's call him Al.

While we love to see him around and marvel at the various wildlife on the island, we want everyone to be careful. We spoke to the city and kept them updated on the whereabouts of our friend as the days went by. Eventually, he did cross the street (using the drainage system) to catch a few rays outside Dollar General.

If he comes around again, we want to share a few things with you.

  • Don't crowd Al. As exciting as it is to take a picture and observe him, we can't let him draw a crowd. It could turn crazy, quick.
  • Never feed Al. Sure, he probably looks like he's hungry, but we promise that he's well taken care of.
  • If you see Al out of the water, please call the non-emergency police phone number.

What we risk with crowding and feeding is Al being permanently moved to another sanctuary.

To see Al and some of his other friends, check out the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center at 1356 Ross Ave, Port Aransas, Texas 78373.

Cheers,
cbporta
